Start by researching photographers who specialize in Finger Lakes weddings. Look for reviews from past clients, portfolios of their work, and any awards or recognition they may have received for their work.
Ps. My reviews right here. 😉 or here!
Get to know the photographer. Talk to them and ask questions about their experience and their process. You should feel comfortable with them, since they will be capturing one of the most important days of your life. You can do this by simply reading someones website, a good website is great at conveying someones voice – and explaining the wedding process they take. If that’s not enough I highly recommend emailing or scheduling a call/zoom session if you need further encouragement!
Make sure the photographer’s style matches your vision. Look at the photos they have taken of past weddings and ask yourself if this is the kind of style you want for your wedding.
For me personally – I’m more of a candid journalistic type. I get those real life moments without forcing you to smile at the camera like a JC Penny Star.

Consider the cost. While it is important to stick to your budget, you should also remember that you get what you pay for. Investing in a great photographer can ensure beautiful photos that you’ll cherish for years to come. You’re not going to be looking back and eating the cake every year or even putting that dress back on, but you are going to look at your photos!
